Copper CNC Machining Services

Copper is an excellent conductor of electricity and heat and is used in a wide variety of electrical applications. It also has excellent corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties. It is one of the most used materials today. It is in many industries, including automotive, electrical, construction, transportation, and consumer goods. The advantages of copper include:

  • Good thermal conductivity
  • High ductility
  • Good machinability
  • Low coefficient of friction
  • Corrosion resistance
  • High electrical conductivity

The most common grades of copper used in CNC machining

The most common grades of copper supplied by Yonglihao Machinery are C110 and C101:

Copper C101

Copper C101, also known as oxygen-free copper. This grade of copper is extremely pure, with a copper content of at least 99.99%. This copper has excellent electrical conductivity, with an IACS conductivity of up to 101%, which is why it is also known as HC copper. It also has excellent thermal conductivity as well as mechanical properties. It is now widely used in the electrical industry, especially where high electrical conductivity and good mechanical properties are required. It is one of the most popular and commonly used copper materials today.

PropertySpecification
Copper Content≥99.99% (High Purity)
Oxygen Content≤0.0005%
IACS Conductivity101%
Ultimate Tensile Strength262 MPa (32,000 psi)
Yield Strength207 MPa (36,300 psi)
Shear Modulus43 GPa
Elongation at Break25%
Hardness (Brinell)36
Density8.9 g/cm³
Maximum Operating Temperature1083°C (1981°F)

Copper C110

Copper C110 is also known as Electrolytically Tough Copper (ETP), a copper alloy made from 99.9% pure copper. This copper has excellent electrical conductivity and an IACS conductivity of 101%. This is similar to the conductivity of copper C101, but it is a little less expensive. In addition, this copper has better corrosion resistance and ductility. As a result, this copper is often used not only for electronic components but also for plumbing and mechanical applications, making it a copper material with a wider range of applications.

PropertySpecification
Copper Content≥99.90%
IACS Conductivity101%
Ultimate Tensile Strength221 MPa (32,053 psi)
Yield Strength69 MPa (10,007 psi)
Shear Modulus43 GPa

Surface Treatment Options for Copper CNC Machined Parts

Yonglihao Machinery offers a wide range of surface treatment services for copper CNC machined parts. By doing so, the functionality, appearance and durability of copper CNC parts can be effectively enhanced. The following are common surface preparation options:

  • Raw Machined Surface: This is suitable for applications that do not require additional surface preparation. This is because it maintains the machining marks and texture of the copper part.
  • Sandblasted: Sandblasting effectively removes machining marks and additionally provides a uniform matte or textured surface to the copper part.
  • Gloss Polishing: A smooth and glossy appearance is achieved by polishing the copper surface. It is suitable for copper parts with high appearance requirements.
  • Electrolytic Polishing: Suitable for copper parts where improved corrosion resistance is required. It enhances the surface luster and maintains the electrical conductivity of the copper.
  • Powder Coating: Powder coating provides an additional layer of protection for copper. This coating makes it more durable and suitable for applications exposed to harsh environments.
  • Electroplating: Electroplating copper parts can add an outer protective layer of metal (e.g. nickel, chromium, etc.). It can effectively improve wear resistance, oxidation resistance, etc.
  • Anodizing: Suitable for enhancing the oxidation resistance of copper parts and providing an additional protective layer. In addition, it can also give different colors to copper parts, which are commonly used for decorative and outdoor applications.
  • Electroless Nickel Plating: Electroless nickel plating provides a strong nickel layer to copper parts to enhance corrosion resistance and hardness.

Applications

Copper is used in a wide range of industries because of its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. It excels particularly in electrical, thermal management and mechanical engineering. Whatever your needs, Yonglihao Machinery is capable of providing you with high-precision copper CNC parts. The following are common industries where copper CNC machining is applicable:

  1. Electrical Engineering and Electronics: Copper is used for electrical connections, wiring, connectors and circuit assemblies. It is now widely used in electric vehicles, electrical equipment and electronics.
  2. Thermal management systems: Copper’s high thermal conductivity makes it ideal for heat exchangers, radiators and cooling systems. This is especially common in electric vehicles and high-power electronic equipment.
  3. Automotive & Aerospace: Copper is used in automotive and aerospace electrical systems, heat sinks and electrical connectors.
  4. Medical Devices: Copper is used in the manufacture of precision medical devices such as surgical tools and imaging equipment.
